Sail Croatia week ending 10/06/13 on Olimp

The crew was fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. We were kept informed on a daily meeting about changes and weather situations concerning our travels. V our guide was great, suggesting restaurants and other things about the Croatia people. I would choose to do this trip again. It was a vacation of a lifetime! Most people were not happy that coffee couldn't be have after 9:00 am.

1. The wifi should work better. 2. For the price of the trip, I expected that we would have access to a good coffee machine 24/7. The urns provided were not satisfactory. 3. The excursions were overpriced. 4. The “included” tour of Dubrovnik should have included a bus to take passengers to the old town. 5. There should be enough treats during the coffee and tea hour (11-12) so everyone has a chance to get a snack. 6. The staff were friendly. 7. The boat was well kept. 8. Our rooms were kept clean. 9. The price of wine (bottles and glasses) were overpriced. 10. The captain’s dinner was very nice. It would have been better if wine was included.

Staff was great. Especially Klara and Pamela. We enjoyed the swim stops and island stops. The meals were so so too much fish for my liking. They’ve in our room didn’t work for 1/2 the week. The tours were great, Capains dinner/dance and wine tours as well I would include gratuity in the price and/or arrange for credit card payments for on board liquor purchases for some people I spoke to were surprised they needed so much euros at the end of the trip which may have an effect on gratuity’s We would highly recommend Sail Croatia to anyone that asks us

Most enjoyable cruise

Thoroughly enjoyed cruising the Croatian islands on our Dubrovnik to Split and return to Dubrovnik tour. Each port we stopped at represented a lesson in history. Thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour in Split and Dubrovnik with the local guides as well as the fabulous dinner with wine in Stari Grad at a local farm restaurant. Our morning swimming stops were a pleasure and the food served on the boat was divine. But there were negatives: 1. Our lower level cabins were adjacent to the engine room therefore when the boat left port early in the morning, no further sleep or talking could be had. These cabins were priced the same as the forward lower level cabins which seems unfair. 2. No itemised bar bills were provided so you had to assume that what you were billed for, you actually drank. 3. The boats internet was rubbish. 4. When rafted up at port with other boats, crossing over was difficult at times due to the height of each boat I.e. need individual ramps and not step up or down.

Regarding the noise from the engines, as our ships are small motor cruisers, the engines do make some unavoidable noise when in operation, similar to a running car. Regarding the bar bill, guests are welcome to request an itemised bill each day to track their consumption. The Wi-Fi can be temperamental as it is subject to download limits and can experience reduced coverage while out at sea. The ramps between boats are designed for ease of movement, but due to the unique designs of each vessel, some variations in height are expected - we appreciate your suggestion of individual ramps. Great Experience

I would have given this experience a 5* as almost everything was perfect with the exception of a few things. Beach towel for one person for the entire week is not acceptable. Changing of the bath towels every few days is also not acceptable. Breakfast time should be longer. Everything else was great !

Great but not perfect

The trip was terrific! The guests on board were great and the crew was fantastic. We had so much fun in all the ports except Vela Luca was a terrible port. The wine tasting was mediocre and expensive and the restaurant options and night life there were terrible. Also, the village meal in Korcula was terrible. The town of Korcula was fun with many great restaurants, including a Michelin star restaurant. I would have MUCH preferred to be on my own that night. Lastly, when pulling into Dubrovnik, it would have been nice if the boat passed by the old city before heading to the port.

Really great vacation

We really enjoyed the entire week. The swim stops and ports are perfection. Our host for the week was so lovely. The only negative was the food. It was mediocre quality and taste.

Split North

Overall the trip was excellent. However if you look into the fine details then you can find major issues. For example tipping policy is terrible ad should be scrapped. Company say one figure staff say a different figure and service you receive is not worth either amount. Some staff’s appearance could improve especially first thing in the morning at breakfast. Sail Croatia and crew of Jelena, have forgotten who the customer is, in respect of, a customer works hard to save money to go on holiday and we are all suffering with cost of living being expensive no different to the crew. Excellent on the face but poor in detail

The service from the arrival to leaving everything was smooth and personalized It was a first time cruise for my self . Really enjoyed the experience of sailing on smaller vessel.

Olimp. Review

What we liked about Sail Croatia: The boat was beautiful and the staff was courteous and helpful. We enjoyed the overnight stays, and the optional UNESCO dinner. What we did not like about Sail Croatia:: The hot tub was not hot, lukewarm at best. Meals choices were limited if you did not like the day’s meals you were out of luck as there were no other choice. No activities or music on board other than a swim stop (weather permitting). The included traditional dinner venue was nice but the food was too bland for our taste. The bar staff charged our account for a bottle of wine and several drinks that we did not order. They need a better accounting system for the onboard liquor. This cruise is better suited for people who want it quiet and with minimum people. For people who enjoy lounging in the sun reading books as there is little else to do when you are onboard. This type of cruise is not for us.

Really one of the best vacations Jodie and I have taken!

1. The staff and crew (The captain, Loana, Thomas, Phillip and all others) were so friendly and accommodating. Thumbs up to all of them. 2. The personalities of all quests and their traveling tales were so interesting to hear. 3. The organization that Loana showed us throughout the cruise was top notch. You could tell she spent many an hour with the preparation of the trip's details. 4. The timing updates from Loan of each day's activities created a stress-free atmosphere. 5. The cabin's interior was very relaxing and spacious, and the room's comforting decor for the size of the ship was a Level 5. 6. The added activities (village farmhouse wine tasting and authentic Croatia dinner and serenading musicians) were wonderful. They made the cruise so special. 7. The navigational skills that the captain exhibited were very reassuring. The negatives that the cruise company could approve upon: 1. The air quality in the cabin's created some health issues with a few quests.

Review croatia

I love having such a small ship. Crew was wonderful. Mostly meals were delicious. Our Mia was wonderful and full of valuable information. She was very approachable and responsive. She is a lovely lady. The bar prices were high and the pours were small. There seemed to be difficulty having the hot tub hot at night for coming home before bed. I also wish we had access to coffee earlier in the morning. 8 am is a bit late for early risers. Towels never dried . So second day we had to use wet towels.

Really great experience

We got to see so many of the islands with little effort. My only criticism is that we were told we would disembark 10.00, and, at the last minute it was changed to 8.00, which made it very difficult for many of us who had ongoing plans booked for later, and had two hours to kill in between, having to store luggage and try to alter plans. Also, it would have been good to have more time in Dubrovnik. By the time we did the History tour it was a scramble to manage the walls before they closed.

Esperanza Sail Croatia

Great Crew and hostess Mia were outstanding. Minor problems: AC went out last few days though. Need a stronger band width for Wifi. Very spotty reception. All in all a good cruise was had by my wife and I and the couple we came with.

Croatia did not disappoint!

Great staff, beautiful boat. Our cabin was unusually small compared to others on our cruise - even single person cabins were significantly larger, notably the shower. Cabins need more hooks or places to dry things. Food on the cruise was great - though breakfast could have had more variety. Itinerary took us to fantastic locations. Wish we could have spent more time exploring the locales on our own. Our cruise director Mia was spectacular! The two group events on the boat needed some help. The cocktail hour on the top deck was lit with horrible emergency lighting and not conducive to a party atmosphere. The captain's dinner concept was nice, but we would have preferred to eat in a local village restaurant, The entertainment at the captain's dinner was clearly skewed to an older audience and half the room left before the music was finished. But overall we really enjoyed our experience.

Esperanza 25 August

Boat was fantastic Route and swim stops great Food was excessive at lunch time. Would have preferred a lite lunch with more fresh salads and sandwich type options. Breakfast were good, but coffee service could have been better. I got food poisoning from the captains dinner and missed a day of the trip. Staff made no apology or did not check on my health. That was disappointing and really didn’t end my trip well. I also think six nights would have been better and we should have finished when we arrived in Dubrovnik. Thanks

Family of 5

Wonderful way of exploring the Croatian islands. The boat was clean and comfortable, the AC was a must during our vacation time as it was in a mist of a heat wave. The entire equipage from the captain to the chef was great, and especially our tour director Ivana. Ivana you made everything better, you lift any worries that appeared , and you made everyone’s day, Thank you. The only suggestion I have to improve this beautiful sailing experience is to have a better coffee, the coffee on any place we stopped on the islands was real good coffee but the one on the boat. Bravo to Sail Croatia, we had an amazing Vacation!

Esperanza boat

We though sail Croatia was good value for money but later found better boats for way cheaper. Disappointed in the service, cleanliness and food . Room floor was not washed once, luckily small and washed ourself. , The shower not cleaned once. Had to ask to change the linen, when we were informed that it will be changed on the Wednesday. It was eventually done on Thursday. Food quality of an old age home. Asked for double bed slept on two single beds. Later found that owner of ship children work on the boat. Thats maybe why! Stops on islands was however amazing and Boris / tour operator working for the boat was very helpful and assisting us with places to visit and Restaurants suggestions on the islands. The boat was way more expensive that a big cruise liner and does not justify the cost of this small boat travelling. When we got of the boat there was no farewell greeting by the staff or someone helping with the luggage. 😪😢.

I found the whole sail Croatia experience to be everything and more to what I thought. The boat was fantastic. Crew were sensational. Croatia was amazing & the good was great. I would recommend this cruise & company to all my friends & associates.

Elegance Cruise

It was a great 7 days on the Queen Jelena and the schedule saw us visit fantastic islands from Split to Dubrovnik. We had a great crowd of people on our trip, and swim stops were amazing. Cabin was better than we anticipated. Food was bland and lacking vegetables and salads of any kind, soup on a 35 degree day is not ideal. There is an opportunity in this area. Our tour guide was pretty absent, apart from his lunch time speech, although he was humorous. Would recommend doing this trip.

Wonderful

We loved our boat trip, we met fabulous people and went to amazing places. The staff were good and our cabin was bigger than expected. A few points to note: More hooks on doors would have been good More fresh towels(especially beach) The food was good but too heavy and hot for lunch time, it was very protein and carbohydrate heavy, who needs a three course meal at lunch time in 36 degree heat???There was a lack of salads and vegetables, some meals were just meat and potatoes, we were expecting more bbq style food with salads and grilled veges, I also found the meals to be very formal, maybe something a little more causal would have been nice, or even eating outside perhaps. Our tour leader was a lovely guy, with a great sense of humour, but we didn’t really see that much of him, and there were occasions when as a group we all felt that he could have done more.

Esperanza is a beautiful boat and passing scenery breathtaking. Douha our host and all crew were wonderful. Swim stops were a favourite of ours and Douha had great knowledge of Croatia and ensured everything ran smoothly for us. Only negative was price of alcohol on board was very expensive and breakfast and lunch although good my expectations were somewhat higher.

Wonderful!

Beautiful boat, smooth sailing, great service especially the bar and food serving, good company, the swim stops, the breakfasts, layout of the decks, spaciousness, varied itineraries. Would have liked a less formal lunch or less time at lunch. And would Have liked to spend more time in Korcula town.

Excellent presentation of the ship especially the hydraulic system at the stern to lower the deck for lswimming. Great meals and cruise director was very visible Only problem was the main barman being a little Unprofessional. Loved everything about the cruise. Well done.

Disappointing food offering

Improve your product??? Surely you mean “offering”. The food offering was repetitive, unexciting, the puddings , (with one exception) were inedible, the use of fake cream from a can was particularly unpleasant. Some Croatian specialities would have been welcome on the menus. Also no other options were available apart from a vegetarian option. All in all, completely underwhelming. Sleep was difficult due to the cheap pillows. However the tour rep Stephan was excellent as was the restaurant/bar manager.

Failed to meet expectations

Compared to recent cruises in the region, the food quality and choice offered was poor and repetitive. Bar closed too early in the evening. Pillows in the room were substandard and uncomfortable. Often had bad drain smell in cabin. The Tour Guide, Stjephan, was outstanding and the rest of the crew very good.

Lovely trip lacking safety precautions

Beautiful boat. Social director Stephen marvelous with deep knowledge of the history of the area.. great sense of humor. Excellent captain who took precautions in the bad weather. Showers had no handle. no safety mat. Totally Inadequate fire drill and No I knowledge of where the life jackets were!

Sailing Croatia

I would not sail when places on the islands are not open. Or at least tell your customers that most shops and tourist places are not open yet and let them decide to sail or not. Staff on you ship need to understand English and also speak it. Also the bartenders should know how to make all types of drinks that are available

Elegance cruise

I enjoyed our cruise with vedran. He was very charming and Knowleagle about the country and the locations we visited. He always had a lot of helpful recommendations. For the most part the ship was good, although we had to change rooms twice during our stay. Once because the original room had a bit of a sewer smell that wasn’t going away and again because the beds in the second room couldn’t be split into twin beds as requested. I did ask sail Croatia to otivii out de a refund for the difference between the upper deck cabin we booked and paid for and lower deck cabin we ended up with. They refused but did offer two separate upper deck rooms, which we declined because we didn’t want to move again with i Oo only 1-2 days rendininv on the cruise. The food was mostly quite good but there could’ve been more variety at breakfast. Free coffee and tea throughout the day was not offered and would’ve been a nice, basic amenity 2 offer. Boat was nice & mostly in good shape but problems w/ hottub

We were sorry to read about the cabin change that took place during your cruise. Our Elegance cruises are operated on small cruise ships. At times if there is bad weather, smell can occur in the bathroom emitting from the shower drains. This is due to the movement of the ships on the water whereby this movement opens up airflow at the back of the pipe and into the bathroom. We were very pleased that our Operations team offered alternative Above Deck cabins as per your booking, however as you preferred to stay in the Lower Deck cabin fitted with two single beds which was more of a priority for you, no refund was due. Thank you for your feedback regarding food, coffee/tea and amenities onboard - these are well received as we are always looking for ways we can improve our services, along with the experience itself for our customers.

Trip

I would like to suggest that you don’t start your cruise season while the islands are still closed and not much open. The bar staff should also understand how to make drinks if have them on the list of drinks. May yea and coffee should be free all day ( not a big cost to you )We had a good cruise besides these minor things.

MANAGEMENT SCREW UP ….

Steve, Bobby, Barbara and the rest of the crew were WONDERFUL. However, I have to COMPLAIN with the MANAGEMENT of SAIL CROATIA!,!! When I purchased my ticket, I specified that I was GLUTEN FREE and was told that the crew would accommodate but they NEVER received the MEMO !!! Because of this, I missed out at every meal and tea time. Because of this, I had a GLUTEN attack and lost a lot of enjoyable times and missed outings. I paid as much as every other guests but received less. Steve, Bobby and even the cook apologized for what happened to me which I greatly appreciated, but I still lost a full day recovering . What’s the point of telling the booking department about your allergies if they don’t pass the message to the crew so they can accommodate the person from day one. This is a DEAL BREAKER to someone with food allergies I had a talk with Steve and made some suggestions on how the service could be improved and I hope he will share those with you . Lovely Trip

The ship was very clean, well laid out and the staff were excellent. The itinerary was well thought out, visiting the various islands and mainland ports, with well timed swim stops and ports of call. The captain did an excellent job of avoiding inclement weather by switching up the order of island visits. Good choices of excursions and lots of free time to explore. One criticism would be the food-the last lunch wasn’t great and dietary concerns that were listed at booking and assured that would be followed were not relayed to the crew or followed. The captains dinner was lovely, but with wine glasses set on every table, we thought some local wine might be provided by Sail Croatia (a bottle of red at a local winery is only €10)-that would have been a nice “wow” factor. Also, there wasn’t a paddle for the paddleboard, and the only water float toy disappeared, as well as odd masks and one poorly fitting fins. Indoor board games would be a good idea to have on hand for inclement weather.

So much fun!

The passenger coordinator, Ioana, was amazing - great communication regarding what was ahead and very responsive to any passenger needs. There was food aplenty; we joked about getting three dinners every day. Best of all were the stops - every island is rich in history and allowed for easy access to the key sites. I wish we had more time at each stop so maybe next time I'll book a longer cruise.

Croatia Cruise with family

We enjoyed great group of people and nice weather condition. Room service was great, our room was made during our breakfast, very efficient. Swim stops were private and well chosen. Good food, the chef was creative. The National Park tour in Mljet was great. We enjoyed cycling around the Lake. The view was fantastic.

Not Elegance

We travelled on the New Ship Roko. It was beautiful, Croatia was beautiful but this was not what I would consider an Elegance Cruise. We were expecting exceptional service. It was mediocre. The staff was informative but not polite, smiling or happy. They were robotic, dismissive, aloof, going through the motions. The captain never smiled, greeted people, not even a courteous wave when walking past you. He did his job, nothing else. The food at breakfast was good, nice variety but ran out of fresh fruit every day. Lunch was a sub par version of English cooking. We were expecting Authentic Croatian cuisine. I only ate 50 % off them. They ran out of fresh lettuce every day. The rooms were straightened up each day with fresh towels. They were not cleaned. Every day there was dust/hair etc on the bathroom floor. I would clean up every morning after the cabin maid left. This is what I would expect from a Navigator, or Explorer Cruise. I didn't consider it an Elegance Cruise at all!

We do have a process in place for any issues that may arise onboard and if we are made aware at the time, we can quickly resolve these matters. I have checked our reports and cannot see that any issues were raised with the Onboard Rep. Thank you for your comments regarding the meals served, it's great to hear that you found breakfasts enjoyable. Upon request the chef will of course provide you with more servings and is always open to suggestions. We offer daily cabin cleaning and a mid-week thorough cleaning service with linen and towel change. If our crew members were made aware of the dust/hair, this would have been resolved immediately to ensure this does not happen again. We thank you for voicing your concerns here, and we do hope that you were able to enjoy all other aspects of the cruise.

Disappointing trip

The ship staff and quality of service is not what we experienced on our period 2 trips with sail croatia. 1. Rooms, bed comforters were just placed on beds. There were never completely done up with pillows, 2 of the days we’re not even done, mirror was dirty for the week. 2. Bar service was poor, common drinks were never made properly. Previous trips with sail croatia, a glass of wine was served with lunch. 3. We received a nice bottle of champagne since it was out 3 rd trip. We don’t drink champagne so we asked them to deliver it to a newlywed couple on the boat. It was never done. We asked what happened to the bottle, it was then delivered 4 days later. 4. Food quantity and quality was poor, always ran out of fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch. When asked if they had any more salad they said it was all gone, 5. Final Bill, They added a $200 kuna ($30Us) charge to reprogram the key that never worked. After arguing with them they reversed it.

In regards to the meals, the chef is more than happy to provide more servings upon request. We are pleased to hear that the key was resolved and that the bottle of champagne was gifted to the newly wedded couple. Not the same 'Sail Croatia'

This is our 3rd time travelling with Sail Croatia and yet again we had the most fantastic time, however, we did notice a few things that we feel needed to be addressed. 1) The cleanliness of the ship overall was not good and the 'sun' deck was not cleaned in the whole week we were on board (I spilt a coke and the stained remained all week). The bar deck was the same and sometimes the tables were still covered in the empty glasses from the night before. 2) The route was changed with no apparent reason and therefore I spent the first day changing booked trips. 3) The captains night was the 1st night (usually the 2nd to last) and most passengers were tired and retired before the entertainment finished). 4) Smoking was allowed pretty much anywhere on outside decks and although I am a smoker, this was not welcomed by most of the passengers. 5) The cushion covers on the sun loungers were not cleaned in time and we therefore spent the first day and half without cushions. run out!

In regards to the cleanliness onboard, the crew are always on hand to assist wherever possible and if they are made aware, any spills will be cleaned up immediately. The ship goes through a thorough cleaning regime prior to your sail and during the week we complete daily cabin cleaning services plus a mid-weekly thorough clean throughout the cabin including linen change. We will pass your comments regarding the glasses on tables to the captain via our Operations Team. I can see from our internal records that there was a slight change in itinerary due to strong winds and for the safety of guests, the captain decided to change this slightly. This can happen as explained in your pre-departure information. The original itinerary was as follows: Dubrovnik, Mljet, Hvar, Stari Grad, Split, Makarska, Korcula, Dubrovnik. The adjusted itinerary was as follows: Mljet, Makarska,Split, Stari Grad, Hvar , Korcula, Dubrovnik. I understand the Onboard Rep had communicated this to all guests, so they were made aware.Smoking onboard is permitted in open areas of the ship. I understand that the cushion covers were being prepared and were not ready until the 2nd day of the cruise, this was explained to all guests onboard also. We do thank you for all your comments here Heidi, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your review with us. We hope to have you back with us again in the near future.

Return trip on Queen Jelena

This was our second trip on Queen Jelena and the ship, crew and host were just as good this time around. This time we travelled North from Split and the only negative of the trip were the excursions which consisted mostly of walking tours during the hottest part of the day. Nowhere near as much fun as the white water rafting, cycling or buggy driving that you can do when travelling South. At least the village dinner was better than the last one!
