Travellers planning Croatia sailing holidays in future might have the opportunity to encounter some special animals on the
island of Cres after eight griffon vultures were released from a local sanctuary. The centre in the village of Beli has rescued and released 95 birds since 1993, the Telegraph reports. Since the project began, the number of griffon vultures on Cres has risen from 20 pairs to around 70, meaning people on Croatia sailing holidays have a better chance of spotting one of the birds. The animals are currently extinct in many European countries and endangered in Croatia, where they are found on four northern islands. Commenting on the appeal of the griffon vulture, Goran Susic, who runs the sanctuary, told the Telegraph: "When I saw them flying for the first time, I was fascinated." People interestedin visiting the picturesque island of Cres can choose a Croatia sailing holiday that begins in Opatija and features stops in Krk, Rab, Zadar and other destinations. ![]() |
