An exhibition of the works of March Chagall is to be extended in the Croatian town of Split.Art enthusiasts stopping off at the coastal location during their Croatia sailing holidays can now visit the display until August 22nd, the Croatian Times reports. More than 70 works by the French painter have been on show to the public at Split's City Hall since May 5th. Some 8,000 people have visited the exhibition, originally due to close on August 9th, during this time. In addition to the 77 painting on display, there are also some 50 graphics by Chagall which have been put up for sale. The works have been loaned to Split's city government from the Alte Post Kunstmuseum in Mulheim an der Ruhr, Germany. Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was one of the most famous artists of the 20th century and was a pioneer of the modernist movement. His works spanned a range of different artistic media, including stage sets, stained glass, ceramics and paintings. ![]() |
